Canadian NetWalker Ransomware Affiliate Will get 20-Yr Jail Sentence in US

A former Canadian authorities worker was sentenced to jail in the US this week for his position in NetWalker ransomware assaults.

The person, Sebastien Vachon-Desjardins, 35, of Gatineau, Quebec, pleaded responsible in June 2022 to collaborating within the ransomware scheme.

Initially noticed in 2019, NetWalker was being provided beneath the ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) enterprise mannequin and has been utilized in assaults in opposition to tens of organizations worldwide, together with personal and public entities, hospitals and emergency providers, regulation enforcement, and training establishments.

Vachon-Desjardins was sentenced to 20 years in jail and ordered to forfeit $21.5 million. Restitution may even be ordered, at a later date.

In January 2022, Vachon-Desjardins pleaded responsible in entrance of a Canadian courtroom. He was sentenced to seven years in jail and ordered the forfeiture of many of the proceeds from his illicit actions, and the restitution of over $2.6 million in Canadian foreign money.
