Privilege Escalation Flaw Haunts VMware Instruments

Virtualization expertise software program big VMware on Tuesday launched patches to repair an important-severity safety flaw within the VMware Instruments suite of utilities.

The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2022-31676, could possibly be exploited by attackers to escalate privileges on a compromised system.

“VMware Instruments was impacted by an area privilege escalation vulnerability. A malicious actor with native non-administrative entry to the Visitor OS can escalate privileges as a root person within the digital machine,” VMWare stated in an advisory.

VMware Instruments is a set of utilities used to boost the efficiency of the digital machine’s visitor working system and improves administration of the digital machine. 

The corporate stated the flaw impacts VMware Instruments on each Home windows and Linux platforms.
