Packaging and equipment

TUF Gaming K7 is packaged in a sturdy cardboard box that reliably protects the device from damage. It provides basic information about the content. The box looks impressive and stylish, in fact, like all gaming products from ASUS. In our case, the wrist rest is not included in the package, although a separate niche is reserved for it. Inside is just a keyboard and a quick start guide.

ROG Strix Scope comes in a more compact package. A stylish black box made of thick cardboard with the logo of the series is hidden under a thin cover. Under the cover there is a keyboard, manual and a transparent plastic case with interchangeable WASD keys.

Design

TUF Gaming K7 has a simple but attractive and solid appearance. Of the additional decor – only a small inscription in the form of a series logo in the upper right corner. The device looks frameless, the keys significantly rise above the body. Bottoms is rubberized legs and two pull-out stands that adjust the height.

ROG Strix Scope, it should be noted, looks a little “richer”. This is subjective, but the keyboard looks more compact, the materials feel more pleasant, and the backlight seems to be more saturated. Probably, it also seems so because the case is made entirely in black, when the TUF Gaming K7 on top is metallic. In the right corner there is also a logo, and at the bottom left there is an inscription – the slogan Republic of Gamers. Also note that the keyboard cable is in a strong fabric braid. Especially for it, recesses are made on the bottom panel, allowing the cord to be brought out not only from the back, but also to the right or left.

By the standards of gaming keyboards, both devices are quite compact and do not catch the eye with “space” forms, as is often the case among gaming accessories . These are concise and solid devices that will become a worthy addition to the workplace of each player.

Features

Let’s point out the main features of each of the keyboards presented in the review.

First TUF Gaming K7:

  • Armory II software allows you to configure device settings. Among them: lighting effects, creating macros and settings profiles for various applications
  • Aura Sync backlight with the ability to customize and synchronize with other Aura-compatible devices. The backlight looks impressive: juicy, rich, but it does not hurt the eyes, it makes it easy to read keys even in complete darkness
  • optical-mechanical keys are designed for more than 100 million clicks
  • comfortable wrist rest made of faux leather. Easy to attach with magnetic locks, making it possible to disconnect it at any time

Now ROG Strix Scope keyboards:

  • Full-color RGB backlight with customizable lighting effects. Separate LEDs are assigned for each key, which together give a bright, high-quality backlight with the possibility of such dynamic effects as a cycle, wave, circle, splash, loose sand and others
  • interchangeable caps – WASD keys. They are made of gray plastic, which makes them stand out externally and to the touch, which allows you to respond more quickly during the game
  • additional stealth key mutes the sound and minimizes all applications so that nothing distracts you from passing
  • anti-hosting and support for pressing 15 keys simultaneously
  • Cherry MX switches, up to 40% faster than standard switches, without pressure points and with easy operation
  • the ability to memorize up to 6 custom profiles
  • enlarged left Ctrl key
  • on some keys there are additional applications that greatly simplify control in shooters
  • lack of a Russian-language layout. If your fingers do not have sufficient muscle memory, then navigating the keys will be difficult

Useful keyboard shortcuts for TUF Gaming K7

An extended list can be found on the ASUS website or in the user manual. But we will give an example of several basic combinations:

  • switching profiles – Fn + 1-4
  • backlight modes – Fn + left / right arrows
  • brightness adjustment – Fn + up / down arrows
  • reset to default – hold Fn + Esc
  • start and end macro recording – Fn + right Alt

Software for TUF K7

Armory II gives you the ability to more deeply customize your TUF Gaming K7 keyboard. It includes four main tabs: keyboard, macros, synchronization and statistics. The first of them allows you to reassign keys, change modes and backlight colors. In the macro editor it is possible to create, modify, delete an unlimited number of macros. Synchronization connects several Aura Sync devices with each other. In statistics, the number of keystrokes will be displayed, commands used more often than others, etc. will be tracked.

Usability

TUF Gaming K7 and ROG Strix Scope are comfortable, perfectly balanced and, of course, beautiful keyboards that you quickly get used to. Neither the assembly nor the appearance have absolutely no complaints. Playing them in Apex Legends is a pleasure, especially after the low-profile office keyboard. However, when you press the keys on the TUF Gaming K7, a mechanical ringing sounds, which is a little annoying. By the way, the ROG Strix Scope has a softer, more pleasant and much quieter move. There is no feeling that you sat down at a typewriter.

It will be difficult to advise giving preference to one of the two devices. They are equally good and comfortable, with each having minor flaws. Mechanical keyboards are generally specific devices. If you have experience in using them, then you should choose based on personal feelings and preferences.
